An Evening With Mr. Al Gore and Dr. David Suzuki
Will be Carbon-Neutral
Vancouver B.C., September 24, 2007 - The evening with former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore on
Saturday, September 29, will be a carbon-neutral event, the BC Restaurant & Food Services
Association (BCRFA) announced today. Through a partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation and
Planetair.ca, Canada’s provider of Gold Standard offsets, BCRFA has committed to reducing the
event’s impact on the environment.
“We are pleased to announce that, with the help of the David Suzuki Foundation and Planetair.ca, we
have taken responsibility for all of the climate-altering emissions associated with the staging of this
event, and have offset them through investments in renewable energy projects elsewhere,” said BCRFA
President & CEO Ian Tostenson. “All of the major emission sources – including electricity and natural
gas used in the venue, air travel, and vehicle use – will be compensated through Gold Standard carbon
offsets, the highest quality offset in the world.”
Mr. Gore and Dr. Suzuki, two of the world’s top environmentalists, will be in Vancouver on Saturday,
September 29, to give presentations on climate change. This will be followed by a question-and-answer
session with Mr. Gore. Tickets for the event, at the Westin Bayshore Hotel, can be purchased only
through the event website at www.algorevancouver.com.
“To solve the problem of climate change, we all need to look at our individual carbon footprints and
make continued efforts to reduce them wherever possible. Going carbon-neutral by purchasing highquality
carbon offsets is a practical and affordable way to reduce our climate impact,” Dr. Suzuki said.
“I commend the organizers of this event for taking Al Gore’s message to heart and offsetting the
event’s emissions.”
The BCRFA has brought together powerful industry and government leaders from Toyota Canada, BC
Hydro, the B.C. Government, the City of Vancouver, the David Suzuki Foundation, Mills Basics,
Sandhill Wines, and media partners Granville Magazine, CKNW, the Vancouver Sun, and Global TV
to support this extraordinary evening.

Vancouver Secondary Schools asked “What would you do with 200 seedlings?”
Vancouver BC, September 19, 2007 - The British Columbia Restaurant & Food Services
Association (BCRFA) in partnership with the Vancouver School Board (VSB) posed this question to
Vancouver Secondary Schools for a chance to win tickets to see former Vice President Al Gore live in
Vancouver on Saturday September 29th at the Westin Bayshore. Templeton Secondary School was
announced as the winner today. Fifteen lucky students will be attending Mr. Gore’s presentation and
will now have the opportunity to plant 200 trees to make a difference in their local community.
BCRFA has given these tickets to 15 members of Templeton’s environmental club - DOPE– Doing
Our Part Environmentally, so they can attend former Vice President Al Gore’s spectacular multi media
presentation. Pacific Regeneration Technologies Inc. (PRT) has generously donated the seedlings for
the students to plant following the event as well as for all of the evenings’ attendees.
“This competition showed how enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate all students are about the
environment…they are our future,” said BCRFA President & CEO Ian Tostenson.
Templeton was selected by the Vancouver School Board to participate in this evening after the BCRFA
contacted the city with its offer of 15 tickets to the event. Templeton won with their proposal of
afforestation with the seedlings. “Afforestation is the process of establishing a forest on land that is not
a forest, or has not been a forest for a long time, and it involves the conversion of open land into a
forest or tree grove by planting trees or its seeds”, said Joanna Yang, student council president and
leader of Templeton’s environmental club.
“We are extremely thrilled to be able to have our students attend an evening with former Vice President
Al Gore,” said Chris Atkinson, Principal at Templeton. “These students have been actively involved in
the DOPE Club- Doing Our Part Environmentally, and this will give them a chance to continue with
their great environmental work.”
Mr. Gore and Dr. David Suzuki will be together live in Vancouver on Saturday September 29 at the Westin
Bayshore Hotel. For one evening only two of the world’s most outstanding environmental advocates will be in
Vancouver together to provide presentations. Tickets can be purchased only through the event website at
